Barbecue Success

Isaiah 53:5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Me and Mike at Papeete, Tahiti. September 2019

We had a barbecue, Saturday, 15 May 2021. The guys from Mike’s lunch group showed up with their wives, or girlfriends, and we had a lovely time visiting and getting to know each other. Mike was so insistent that we do this, and I was fine with it, but then he forgot. I kept reminding him we had his group coming for a barbecue and he kept asking me when did I arrange this for him. I reminded him he gave the guys invitations. He looked at me and smiled and said, “I don’t remember doing that”

I had begun to try to straighten things up last week in preparation for the barbecue, but there is only so much I can do alone. Mike insisted it would only take 15 minutes to put away stuff, and hose the patio off. I told him I thought it would take longer, but he disagreed with me. So I kept plugging along to do what I could. Finally, Friday he joined me outside to clean thing up. We had to hose off all the chairs, and the tables; we needed to put tools away, and sweep the floor, and pick up some of the pine needles that were everywhere. We opened the pool and set the sweeper to work. i got the plastic table covers and had it all set up and ready to go.

I was up at 7 am to make sure I had time to finish everything, and then I sat down with a cup of hot tea. Mike got up about then – he didn’t want breakfast, he just went outside. About 30 minutes later I looked out, and Mike was sitting at the table. He looked peaceful and content, so I let him sit there a while longer. Finally he came into the house, said outside was finished and he laid down on the sofa. (It was about 11) I began to slice the onions and tomatoes, pulled the rest of the things together, and was finishing up when the 1st vehicle pulled into the driveway.

Everyone stayed about 2 1/2 hours, then headed out. Mike immediately laid down on the sofa and slept close to 3 hours, before he went to bed.
